“Observations of a phytoplankton spring bloom onset triggered by a density front in NW Mediterranean” by Olita et al. has been published in Ocean Science Journal

SOCIB in collaboration with CNR-ISMAR and IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) published a new paper in Ocean Science Journal. The study presents the impact of mixing and restratification on the triggering of the seasonal bloom in the central part of the Algero–Provençal basin (northwestern Mediterranean Sea) using an autonomous underwater glider. The main aim was to understand the role of the front in the bloom triggering. The survey was conducted within the framework of the transnational activity (TNA) programme of the EU-FP7 JERICO (Towards a Joint European Research Infrastructure network for Coastal Observatories) project, part of the activities of the Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) glider facility. The glider was sent on a round trip from the Balearic Islands to Sardinia and back in February-March 2013, the most favorable period of the year for the onset of the seasonal bloom in the NBF area.
