SOCIB at the 2nd International Ocean Research Conference

SOCIB`s Director, Joaquín Tintoré, was invited to the 2nd International Ocean Research Conference (IOC-UNESCO, FNOB and The Oceanography Society) as speaker in the panel “The Dawn of the Robotic Exploration of our Planet Ocean”, held in Barcelona 17-21 November, 2014. Over 620 scientists from 75 countries took part in the conference, gathering to map out the route for the world's oceans for the coming decade and to put ocean matters firmly on an international political framework. Convened institutions were invited to review the progress made in ocean science in the last twenty years, and plan ahead in light of important policy developments such as the “The Future We Want” (UNCD Rio+20) and “Future Earth”.



The conference program included a series of open activities for the general public such is the exposition of different Research Vessels, among others the new SOCIB’s Research Catamaran that represents a new concept of coastal oceanography research vessel. Public tours of the ship have been offered, with specialized staff who guided the visits onboard to the different facilities and oceanographic instrumentation displayed in the ship’s deck.
