JERICO-TNA glider international Workshop

An international workshop was organized and hosted by IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) in collaboration with SOCIB on January 29-30, 2015 to analyze and discuss the data obtained in the Southern Mediterranean region, in the frame of JERICO-TNA glider missions (Abacus and Musics) together with SOMBA cruise (MOOSE) and also with partial funding from PERSEUS project. The data collected in these coordinated efforts were particularly important since this area has been recognized as one of the key areas with few data in the Western Mediterranean.

Glider data, combined with ship, satellite and other multi-platform observing systems will be extremely useful to address fundamental scientific questions such as ocean's role in climate change, water masses interactions and dynamic effects, shelf/slope exchanges, eddies, etc. and also contributing to societal needs as those related to the implementation of MSFD or the advances towards a more science and ecosystem based ocean and coastal management.
