Dr. Luca Mazzei (CNR-ISMAR) visited SOCIB glider facility

During the month of November 2015, Dr. Luca Mazzei (CNR-ISMAR, Italy) visited SOCIB Glider Facility in the frame of an exchange program for technicians granted by the italian institution. Dr. Luca Mazzei is a Computer PhD Engineer with experience in computer vision systems and autonomous road vehicles and he is currently in charge of a recently purchased G2-1000m-Slocum glider equipped with a microturbulence sensor.

Dr. Mazzei worked from the SOCIB Glider-Lab located at IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) the major part of the time although it has also visited SOCIB headquarters at ParcBit and Calanova's hangar amongst other facilities. During the time spent with SOCIB glider technicians, he was introduced to all the glider aspects and dynamics within the SOCIB Glider Facility; from on-bench mechanical verifications to software configuration and tactical/logistical preparation of a glider mission. In return, he provided valuable feedback from what he was shown and also about his experience and knowhow with the microturbulence sensor and glider operations on-board big research vessel.
