From space to shore - Monitoring the pulse of the land-ocean continuum
Jesús has a multidisciplinary background combining marine sciences, environmental monitoring, agrifood research and remote sensing expertise. His PhD from the Catalonia Polytechnic University (UPC) focused on the integrated monitoring and management of low-lying coastal areas using optical satellite imagery. He is involved in the full remote sensing workflow, from field data collection and image processing techniques to data analysis and product development. Jesús joined SOCIB as a post-doc researcher, and since September 2024 he holds a remote sensing scientist position in the satellite remote sensing facility. His work is focused on retrieving key coastal-to-ocean biogeophysical and morphological parameters, and analyzing their dynamics across various time scales and forcing scenarios. He is actively engaged with emerging technologies such as computer vision, AI, and Digital Twins of the Ocean. By integrating these cutting-edge tools with remote sensing data, Jesús aims to generate actionable insights for a deeper understanding and sustainable management of coastal and marine environments.
