SOCIB visitors: Mr. Patrick Lambert, Director of the EACI, visited SOCIB headquarters
Mr. Patrick Lambert, Director of the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI), accompanied by Mr. Miquel Bernat, Director of Parc Bit and Mr. Antonio Viader, Responsible of the Innovation Unit at Parc Bit, visited SOCIB headquarters on June 6th, 2012.
The SOCIB team presented the ongoing activities with particular emphasis on the role of science, technology development, and innovation to advance towards knowledge based management of our oceans and coasts. As SOCIB has already shown through SIAS applications, a high quality and well preserved environment is at the basis for increasing the competitiveness of European companies and is also at the base of maintaining and increasing quality of life of residents.
For this, science and innovation are needed and SOCIB is developing new innovative tools to achieve this general sustainability goal. Some examples developed at SOCIB are:
- Forecasting tools for oil spill tracking in the ocean and implementation of decision support tools to establish the coastal response
- New technologies such as underwater gliders for routine monitoring of our oceans and coastal areas,
- Indicators and methodologies to establish equilibrium points between environmental, economical and societal goals;
- Smartphones apps for real time visualization of oceans and coasts data;
- Beach monitoring systems related to beach safety, etc.
