JPI Oceans - http://www.jpi-oceans.eu - is a coordinating and integrating long-term platform, open to all EU Member States and Associated Countries who invest in marine and maritime research. While bringing together the interested Member States and Associated Countries the JPI Oceans aims to:

  • Enable the advent of a knowledge based maritime economy, maximising its value in a sustainable way
  • Ensure Good Environmental Status of the seas and optimise planning of activities in the marine space
  • Optimise the response to climate change and mitigate human impacts on the marine environment

Marine infrastructures are recognized as a key element of todays ocean monitoring strategies and as such, are one of the horizontal frameworks of JPI Oceans. SOCIB's Director, Joaquín Tintoré and all the SOCIB team presented the different observing and forecasting facilities as well as the different Divisions and Services in which SOCIB is structured to provide new theoretical and technological developments, increasing the knowledge of open ocean, coastal and nearshore processes and contributing to a more science based and sustainable management of oceans and coasts.
