Porto Colom Buoy

Oceanographic Buoy

In May 2024, SOCIB added a new buoy to its network of oceanographic buoys that is part of the equipment of the EBAMAR-PortoC observatory, located on the east coast of Mallorca.

The buoy is equipped with sensors that allow meteorological data (wind, pressure and temperature) and temperature and salinity of the sea surface layer to be recorded, with a periodicity of 10 minutes. It also records wave data every 30 minutes. The data is transferred via terrestrial telephony to SOCIB servers, where it is pre-processed and immediately published on the SOCIB website.

This small buoy, EMS miniDB500, is equipped with a Campbell datalogger and the sensors it incorporates are an SBE37 for recording sea temperature and salinity, an AIRMAR WTX200 weather station and a BIRZO wave sensor.
