Pollensa Station

Sea Level

The primary goal of the station in the port of Pollensa (Mallorca) is to provide sea level measurements. The station is equipped with a radar water level sensor and an atmospheric pressure sensor for this task. By positioning the radar water level sensor directly above the water's surface, it determines the water level by measuring the time elapsed between the emission and return of short microwave pulses. The duration of these pulses directly corresponds to the distance to the actual water surface level.

The ITCS SOCIB has been managing this station since 2010. From 2010 to 2022, the station utilized a water pressure gauge and an atmospheric pressure sensor. The combination of these data, using the hydrostatic equation, enables the calculation of the height of the water column above the water pressure sensor. By referencing the sensor's position relative to the geoid, an absolute measurement of sea level is obtainable.

The station receives support from the Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença.
