SOCIB and IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) in collaboration with the Spanish Ports Authority (Puertos del Estado), organized the 3rd High Frequency Radar (HF RADAR) Iberian Meeting, held in the Hotel OD Port Portals, February 25, 2015. With the participation of about 25 experts and end users, topics such as, new challenges offered by this technology, data quality control systems, availability in real time, validation, etc., were discussed. As well as new developments in the decision making support system for the sustainable management of the Balearic Sea and the Mediterranean.

The HF-Radar is a technology that allows, through stations on land, measuring surface ocean currents. In the Balearic Islands this technology was implemented 3 years ago in the Ibiza Channel as part of the SOCIB Observation & Monitoring System, in which the Department of Marine Technologies, Operational Oceanography and Sustainability from IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) was actively involved.
