SAPO is a 72-hour prediction service developed by the Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (ICTS SOCIB) in collaboration with Puertos del Estado. This system operates automatically twice a day at the ICTS SOCIB IT center, using wave and wind forecasts provided by Puertos del Estado as input. SAPO displays the evolution of wave characteristics (height, period, and direction) around the Balearic Islands, from deep waters to shallow waters, with a resolution of 0.5 km.
Balearic Sea Wave Forecast Map
Consult the forecast of significant wave height for the next 3 days at 5 different points in the Balearic Sea.
Three of these points coincide with the locations of the ICTS SOCIB buoys, allowing for a comparison of the buoy data with the model's reanalysis. There is a Zoom option to choose the time window to view (the last 3-7 days or the last month). The data displayed are a new analysis. By clicking on the legend name, the user can activate or deactivate all data series to only view the series of interest.
