SOCIB was presented at the First Spanish Meeting of Physical Oceanography in Barcelona
SOCIB was presented at the First Spanish Meeting of Physical Oceanography in Barcelona, October 13-15, 2010. The Director from SOCIB briefly presented the ongoing activities from the 3 SOCIB divisions (SOS, ETD, ASIS) as well as the mission, objectives, structure, etc. as described in the implementation plan from July 2010. Further details from the ongoing activities were provided in 7 oral and poster presentations from SOCIB and IMEDEA engineers and researcher.
Topics covered from the coastal and nearshore wave forecasting system, to the ROMS forecasting and assimilation system, the large sea level oscillations in harbours forecasting system, the glider operations along satellite altimeter tracks (including estimate of vertical motions in mesoscale and submesoscale features) and the inter-annual variability in the Mediterranean. Also of relevance was the presentation of the quality control system developed jointly between SOCIB and TMOOS-IMEDEA as well as the more recent technology developments carried out at present mostly at TMOOS-IMEDEA lab facilities in Esporles.
