SOCIB Modelling and Forecasting Facility in collaboration with "Puertos del Estado" has increased the domain of the wave forecast system to cover all the Balearic Islands coastline. This new domain includes a large scale grid containing all the Islands and three sub domains with higher resolution: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

As in the previous domain (Palma bay), the system provides wave forecasting with 72 hours horizon and is updated twice daily. The model is forced by wind forecasts from the HIRLAM model provided by the AEMET and the deep ocean Mediterranean wave model from “Puertos del Estado”. This system also includes a validation procedure with near real-time measurements registered by three oceanographic buoys located at Enderrocat, CapdePera and Dragonera. This application is part of the Local Wave Forecast System at "Puertos del Estado" (SAPO).
